Mike & Donna's verdict:

If you want to let the good times roll there’s nowhere better than New Orleans. Yet many of its residents have been badly hit by poverty and the effects of Hurricane Katrina. Getting involved in a volunteer project can turn a regular holiday into a life-changing experience - for you and the people you help.

Hit the Rhythm Road - New Orleans

Hands Up Holidays says

Our unique holidays are all about soaking up amazing sights, enjoying luxurious accommodation and bonding as a couple, family or group of friends by helping together on a meaningful volunteer project to benefit an overseas community or threatened environment.

In the space of one unforgettable holiday, you will gain insights into others’ lives, interacting meaningfully with another culture in a safe context. Our customers return home with a great sense of achievement and lifelong memories.

Our holiday in the USA is Building the Big Easy – based in New Orleans, three days in your week-long holiday will be spent taking part in voluntary work. You might help refurbish houses damaged by Hurricane Katrina, help sort clothing donations at a homeless shelter, teach computer or other skills to unemployed people and so help increase their chances of securing long-term jobs, or help at an assisted living home for the elderly, by entertaining the residents and assisting with the programmes.

The people of New Orleans are amongst the friendliest you will find anywhere, and spending time getting to know them through your volunteering is sure to be a highlight you will treasure.

In addition, the city itself is full of architectural and cultural treasures, which your local guide will be only too pleased to show you.

You’ll stay in a luxury hotel in the French Quarter and have plenty of free time to explore this fascinating city and neighbouring places of interest.

We tailor-make your trip to suit your preferences. Trips can be run on any date with itineraries from four days to two weeks or longer.
