Luxury spa hotels

We say
If there's one thing more indulgent than a luxury hotel stay, it's a luxury hotel with wall-to-wall spa treatments. How good would it feel right now to take a sauna, get a pedicure, carve a few laps of a serene pool and lie back as an expert therapist kneads away all those knots?

The Healthy Holiday Company says

Most hotels these days tell us that they have a fabulous spa, only for us to find there are a couple of treatment rooms and perhaps a hot tub or tiny pool. As long-established specialists in wellness holidays around the world, we set out to whittle down the list of England’s true spa and wellness hotels to just nine properties. As you might imagine, we set the bar high!

  • Best spa hotels
  • Healthy eating
  • Extreme pampering

Of the more traditional residential spa resorts, we chose just two. Grayshott Spa is set in the former home of Lord Tennyson in Surrey. We love the light-filled public areas, indoor and outdoor pools and especially recommend the rooms in the main house. The choice of treatments is outstanding, there’s a wide range of activities and there’s even a nine-hole golf course. The other is Champneys Tring, in Hertfordshire, which majors on pampering spa treatments right through to Boot Camp.

Set in a gorgeous Georgian building, Babington House is a favourite amongst celebs but don’t let that put you off! Head to Cowshed Relax for pampering treatments and Cowshed Active to push your body to the max before indulging in lip-smacking cocktails and delicious cuisine.

The magical gardens alone at Barnsley House are good reason to stay but you’ll also find a charming garden spa, contemporary rooms and superb food with an Italian twist. It’s all about calming the soul with a little indulgence – perfect.
