Brighton is the UK’s most cosmopolitan and exciting seaside resort with a vibrant restaurant scene, cool bars, The Lanes for browsing antiques and that beach. Our  favourite place to stay is Artist Residence. We love its eclectic style, knock-out cocktails and 24 individual rooms spread across two converted Regency townhouses. Close to Brighton is the four-room Blue Door Barns – each room is a mini-barn with über-stylish furnishings and, with two of them, the option for breakfast each morning.

In Kent, we highly recommend The Albion in Ramsgate, especially for foodies – the owners, Emma and Ben, take their food seriously and it shows in the tempting menus. Just three miles from Canterbury, the newest kid on the Kent block is The Pig at Bridge Place – we’re big fans of all The Pig hotels and this one hits the sweet spot between rock’n’roll modernity and rural charm.

Over on the Isle of Wight – a short ferry ride from Southampton – you’ll find North House. Since it opened in 2016, this winner of a small hotel is the epitome of nautical chic with its beautiful rooms, glass-fronted restaurant and outdoor pool. Close to the heart of Cowes, the location is pretty special too.

North of London, there’s always the Cotswolds, Chilterns and Wye Valley. Calcot & Spa is the place to choose if you want to feel truly pampered in a contemporary hotel set in a 700 year old farmhouse. It’s one of the few which artfully works for both families and couples alike – not least as it sits in 220 sprawling acres of ground.

Oak House No 1, in the hart of Tetbury, is something very special indeed – 3 rooms, stunning Warhols, fab breakfasts and reassuringly expensive! Dial it down in Woodstock’s Crown Inn, best described by the owners – it’s a boutique pub.
