Cottages in Sussex

We say
Whether you’re a walker, beach-lover or collector of gastropubs, the rolling hills of Sussex are wonderful for a self-catering break. Bramley & Teal offer a fantastic range of properties, with the added bonus of complete flexibility on length of stay – from a day to a week or more. Many properties welcome dogs, and there are some gorgeous larger houses for family celebrations.

Bramley & Teal says

Sussex is a county of two halves: to the west is the South Downs, England’s newest National Park, and the bright lights of Brighton. To the east lies the unspoilt countryside of the High Weald, the cobbled streets of Rye, one of the original Cinque Ports, the dunes at Camber Sands and the small resort of Pevensey Bay.

  • Flexible stays
  • Pets welcome
  • Remote locations

We offer more than 200 hand-picked holiday cottages, mostly concentrated in the east of Sussex, close to the border with Kent. It’s a wonderful region to explore, particularly on foot.

Our properties include traditional cottages as well as more quirky options such as converted railway carriages, shepherd’s huts and traditional oast houses with coastal and countryside locations to suit all tastes, party sizes and budgets.

Rental periods are flexible, from one night upwards. You can see live arrival day options, availability and prices for each of our properties on our website.

We’ve highlighted the most romantic cottages, our pick of the best family-friendly properties and those which are dog-friendly.

To give you a taste of the options available, we’ve picked out some particular favourites.

Escape to the coast with a stay at 4 Marine Cottages, a stunner of a 1930s beach house located directly on Camber Sands. It’s a great choice for families, with three bedrooms, and there’s even your own private section of beach cordoned off.

For romantics, there’s The Haven in Sedlescombe, a light and airy weatherboarded house with spectacular countryside views and historic Sedlescombe on your doorstep. Rye, Hastings and Bexhill are a short drive away and you can enjoy a wine-tasting tour in Sedlescombe’s own organic vineyard.

Royal Tunbridge Wells may be only a ten-minute drive away, yet The Stables is a rural gem with open views across green pasture from its bright and contemporary interior and gardens. Sleeping up to six, it’s a great choice for a large family or group of friends.

Dog owners will love April Cottage, a cosy and peaceful two bedroom house surrounded by wonderful walking trails. Set in the village of Staplecross, it’s close to Bodiam Castle and the Kent & Sussex Steam Railway.

Gather together up to 16 friends and family for a break in Melpies House, located in Burwash. The outdoor swimming pool (open from May to September) is a big draw but this converted Jacobean coach house also boasts a well-equipped children’s play area and gorgeous gardens with views of the High Weald valley.
