The Philippines

Our verdict:

Frequently overlooked in favour of its South East Asian neighbours, the Philippines is a fascinating country of wild natural beauty, friendly English-speaking people and world-class beaches. It's not a destination for staying in one place: go for an island-hopping adventure.

An archipelago nation, the Philippines is made up of more than 7,000 islands, justly famed for fabulous tropical beaches, scuba-diving, snorkelling, wildlife, scenery and culture – not least its six Unesco World Heritage Sites.

Our wide range of holidays covers ten different regions, each of them offering unique experiences with fabulous island-hopping itineraries to give you a real taste of all that this fascinating country offers.

The capital, Manila, is the place to go for culture. You won’t want to miss Intramuros, a walled city within a city, Manila’s impressive Cathedral, Fort Santiago and San Agustin Church, which dates back to the 16th century.

Bohol has a laid-back beach vibe and is famed for its ‘Chocolate Hills’, a unique geological formation. Wildlife to spot include the adorable tarsier, dolphins and sperm whales – the snorkelling and scuba-diving here are outstanding.

For a more luxurious beach idyll, Palawan is an unspoiled paradise with sprawling jungle, rugged mountains, pristine white sand beaches and top-notch resorts. It’s a great alternative to the better-known Boracay which is currently closed to tourists for a clean-up and reef restoration.

There’s a vibrant nightlife and restaurant scene in Cebu plus plenty of activities such as river kayaking and canyoning. It’s also home to the oldest fort in the region and spectacular waterfalls.

Our expert team will tailor-make a multi-centre holiday to suit your interests, available time and budget.

Our most popular itinerary is Manila and Coron, Palawan. Spend three nights exploring Manila before heading to Coron, Palawan for a week marvelling at the scenery, taking boat trips, snorkelling, diving and generally chilling out.

Our Philippines for Families trip includes three nights R&R in Cebu, a week in Bohol with activities including dolphin watching, snorkelling, river cruises, a visit to the Tarsier Foundation conservation sanctuary, and two nights in Manila.

If you like to keep on the move and see as much as possible, our Discover the North private tour is for you.

You can visit the Philippines year-round but the best time is between November and May, the dry season. Break up your journey by combining a stay in the Philippines with a city stop such as Singapore, Hong Kong or Dubai.
