Overland Africa

Our verdict:

Seeing animals in the wild isn’t an experience to miss simply because you’re on your own. From tracking mountain gorillas in Uganda to classic destinations such as Kenya, Tucan Travel offers an exciting and cost-effective way to go on safari. More than 60% of passengers on these overland tours are travelling solo.

Tucan Travel says

An African safari is a wonderfully rewarding holiday for anyone travelling solo.

  • expert-guided groups
  • overland tours
  • popular with all ages

We offer a range of overland tours in Africa with groups averaging 12 to 24 people – and more than 60% of our customers travel solo, with a very wide range of ages (from 18 to 60) and nationalities.

Not only are these tours a really low cost way of experiencing a safari but we also offer a room or tent share scheme, at no extra cost, so you can share a room with someone else of the same sex.

One of our most popular options is the two-week East Africa Circuit, combining classic safari experience in Kenya’s Masai Mara with Mountain Gorilla trekking in the Ugandan rainforest and a fascinating insight into Rwanda’s troubled past. Alternatively, our 13-day Rwanda to Masai Mara tour spends more time in Rwanda, including the chance to meet pygmy villagers and cruise down the Nile.

This nine-day safari and beach combo takes you on safari through the Serengeti and winds up with some R&R on Zanzibar’s beaches.

Our 10-day Mara and Serengeti tour ticks three of the greatest safari hotspot boxes – the Masai Mara, Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater.

If you have a bit more time to spare – and a sense of adventure – the 18-day East Africa Trail takes in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania.

Accommodation on all our Africa overland tours is in a mix of hotels and tented camps with some meals included in the price. There is an optional upgrade on most tours if you would prefer a room to yourself.
