Arctic encounters

Cathy's verdict
There’s nothing like meeting locals to really get under the skin of a destination and experience the culture at first-hand. With no single supplements, and a choice of group tours or tailormade itineraries, these unique trips are particularly good for solo travellers looking for a memorable Arctic adventure.

Our Local Lives holidays, launched in 2020, are all about getting under the skin of a place, staying in the heart of communities in Arctic Europe and discovering their culture and traditions.

  • learn from local hosts
  • no single supplement
  • inspiring itineraries

Designed to enrich and inspire, each holiday is all about authentic experiences and learnings which go way beyond what we all think of as a holiday. Our aim is for you to return home refreshed, revitalised and informed – and perhaps also having developed some new friendships.

Throughout, you will spend time with our hosts, each of whom will share their knowledge and passion with you. From Sanna and Erik, the husky dog lovers, to Ulf Juo Jonsson, the star-gazing fanatic, each host is there to give you the very best experience as you share a slice of their lives.

Arctic Sweden and Norway’s Senya Island are the first two destinations in our new programme, with departures in late summer and autumn – and a chance of seeing the Northern Lights as well as this region’s breathtaking autumnal colours.

Arctic Sweden is a seven-night trip which will immerse you in this remote region with local hosts who specialise in wild foraging, astronomy, husky hiking and Sami culture. You’ll cross the Arctic Circle and experience forest bathing, traditional saunas and stay in charming local lodges and heated teepees in a Sami camp.

Our six-night trip to Norway’s Senja Island takes in hiking with huskies, coastal foraging and sea fishing as well as Viking history, traditional crafts and Sami culture. Staying on the beautiful island of Tranøya, the focus is on nature, history and traditional food.

On all our Local Lives holidays, all meals, flights and local transportation are included in addition to accommodation. There is no single supplement or compulsory room-share but single places are limited. You will travel as part of a small group (between just four and 12 people) and our team can also quote for a solo trip just for you.
