Jordan

Our verdict:

Home to the rock-carved city of Petra, the Dead Sea and the desert dunes of Wadi Rum, along with crusader castles, coral reefs, Roman sites and Biblical mosaics, Jordan crams a huge amount into a small country. These expert-guided small group tours are perfect for outgoing singles looking for adventure with a generous touch of luxury.

Recommended tour operator: Abercrombie & Kent

Abercrombie & Kent says

We have earned our reputation for outstanding luxury holidays worldwide since we started in the 1960s. Our breadth of destination knowledge, first-class local teams and flair for creating great itineraries mean that each holiday is packed with amazing sights and experiences, many of them off the beaten track and unique for our customers.

  • expert-guided groups
  • no single supplement
  • luxury accommodation

In addition to tailor-made holidays, we now also operate a wide range of small group journeys, each for no more than 18 people.

We’ve gone even further in 2019, introducing no single supplement for the first four places on each of these ‘immersive journeys’.

What’s more, you can now tailor your journey with the Design your Day® concept, available on all tours in 2020. On one or more selected days of your itinerary, you will be able to choose from at least two expert-crafted activities, suited to you and your interests.

Whichever journey you choose, you will stay in hand-picked five star accommodation and be assured of expert local guides, on hand throughout.

Jordan is a cultural gem within easy reach of the UK and best experienced as part of an escorted group.

Our eight-night itinerary starts in Amman, from where you will discover the nearby Crusader castle of Ajloun as well as exploring the fascinating Royal Automobile Museum and Jordan Museum – where you will see the Ain Ghazal statues which date back to 7250 BC.

One of the world’s best-preserved Greco-Roman cities, Jerash is as atmospheric as it is spectacular.

The highlight for many is three nights in the Rose City of Petra where you will see the Khazneh (the temple of Indiana Jones fame), the Treasury, theatre and museum, the colonnaded Temple of Winged Lions, the Corinthian Tomb and the Palace Tomb

Optional Design Your Day extras in Petra include the Lost City or a visit to Siq al-Barid (otherwise known as Little Petra).

The last two nights are spent by the Dead Sea with the chance to cool down in its mineral-rich waters as well as enjoy a thrilling 4×4 journey across the Wadi Rum, racing through rippled desert, speckled with Bedouin Camps during World War I.

Departures are between February and May, September, October and November.

The age range on our trips is mostly 50 and over.
