It’s astonishing how much you can pack into a short winter break in the snow.
We offer three- and four-night winter breaks throughout Europe, from romantic cities to snowy wilderness. Choose from Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Norway and Finland – from snowshoeing to the Northern Lights or Christmas markets to winter walking breaks.
If you’re looking for an active break, you can try a host of snow-based activities such as cross-country skiing in Austria or snowshoeing and walking in Switzerland. No prior experience is necessary.
Alternatively, head to Arctic Norway or Finland to seek out the Northern Lights. When not gazing at the night sky you can enjoy dog-sledding, horse-drawn sleigh rides, cross-country skiing, reindeer safaris or ice fishing.
For an even more sedate short break, you might prefer to head to Bavaria where you can fill your days with boat trips across idyllic lakes and visits to handsome towns, or to Austria’s Lake District. Here, if you are travelling in December, you can combine scenic walks and gentle forays on snowshoes with visits to festive markets in nearby villages, or even take the short bus ride to Salzburg to experience one of Europe’s best-known Christmas markets.
Finally, if the idea of a winter city break appeals, take a look at our Nordic Cities Explorer in Winter holiday. It effectively combines three city breaks in one – you visit Copenhagen, Stockholm and Helsinki, travelling between these three enthralling Nordic capitals by rail and boat. In the run-up to Christmas, the atmosphere is all the more special, with twinkling lights and tempting markets.
