Recommended tour operator: The Cultural Travel Company

The Cultural Travel Company says

We offer affordable and sociable group travel experiences throughout Europe and the UK, exploring cultural highlights themed around art, architecture, archaeology, history and music.

Each trip is accompanied by an expert speaker and offers an engaging itinerary that combines sightseeing, lively talks, a couple of group dinners and free time for you to explore at leisure. Accommodation is in three-star and four-star hotels with breakfast included and group sizes are between 20 and 30 (with all departures guaranteed for this season).

We offer a number of short breaks of four nights or fewer with prices from around £800 for three nights.

Few countries in Europe boast such a vast wealth of Gothic cathedrals as France. This four-night tour takes in the most impressive of them – Amiens, Beauvais, Chartres, Reims and Saint Denis. Accompanied by an expert on the Medieval period, the trip begins and ends in Paris so you can add on some extra time in the City of Light if you wish.

On our three-night Archaeology in Pompeii weekend, you’ll be immersed in the lives of Ancient Romans with a full day at Pompeii itself as well as a tour of Herculaneum, Villa Poppea and a gentle climb on Mount Vesuvius.

Coinciding with Opera North’s 40th anniversary, we will enjoy performances of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Janacek’s Kata Kabanova, Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring and Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi on our three-night Opera in Leeds trip.

Chateau de Versailles is a glorious immersion in to the history, influence, art and horticulture of this, one of Europe’s most impressive ‘palaces’.

Closer to home, Cathedrals & Abbeys of the North is a three-night trip based in historic York, with visits to York Minster, Beverley Minster, Rievaulx Abbey, Durham Cathedral, Ripon Cathedral and Fountains Abbey.

On all our trips, we include all local travel in a comfortable coach, admission fees, expert lectures and a trip assistant who is there to smooth the way throughout. Travel to and from the start and end points is not included.
