Lake District walking

Annabelle's verdict:

Few places can rival the Lake District for dramatic beauty, and there’s no better way to explore these extraordinary landscapes than on foot. Walking holidays are extremely companionable, making them an ideal option for solo travellers, and whether you prefer gentle strolls or twenty mile hikes, Hassness House makes the perfect base.

Ramblers Walking Holidays says

We specialise in guided group walking holidays and short breaks worldwide.

Close to home, our very own Hassness Country House is the epitome of what’s best about the English Lake District. Warm and generous hospitality, spectacular views wherever you look and some of the UK’s best walking from gentle strolls around picturesque lakes to arduous (and ultimately rewarding) treks up and down fells and peaks – all on the doorstep.

Located in the less-frequented western Lakes, there’s a real sense of escapism – with views of sheep and red squirrels rather than coach-loads of visitors!

We offer a wide range of guided walking breaks based at Hassness House and you are guaranteed like-minded company amongst fellow walking enthusiasts of all ages – couples, solo travellers and groups of friends.

There’s a range of simple but comfortably-furnished double, twin and single rooms, most of them en suite, with no more than 21 staying at any one time. There’s plenty of space in which to relax including our convivial lounge, – you’ll find a well-stocked honesty bar too.

A hearty breakfast, afternoon tea with cake and a delicious home-cooked dinner (except on Tuesdays) are included in all our breaks as well as a picnic lunch on all days when there’s a guided walk.

You can stay at any time of year (stays of three nights or more). Our group walking holidays operate between late March and early November; stays on a B&B basis are available out of season.

Themed options range from the more gentle Lakeland Explorer to the challenging Great Lakeland Ridge Walks and even a Women’s Activity Week with Yoga, Pilates and circuit training as well as guided walks.

Our Mindfulness in the Mountains short breaks include silent walks, gentle yoga practice and short meditation sessions.

Hopeless at map reading? Our Navigation and Hill Skills breaks are all about learning map reading and navigation skills whilst enjoying the great outdoors.

Out of season stays are also available on a B&B basis only.
