Copenhagen

Our verdict:

If you’re looking for a city break with serious style, Copenhagen is a brilliant choice; picture-perfect cobbled streets mix with contemporary architecture and a bustling waterfront to create a really diverse feel. A wonderfully alfresco city, long seafood-filled lunches can be had by the water or in pavement cafes, before exploring the galleries, boutiques and historic palaces.

Kirker Holidays says

If you thought that Copenhagen was all about a mermaid and the Tivoli Gardens, prepare to be amazed.

This vibrant city, one of the oldest in Europe, dates back to Viking times. All the charm of Copenhagen’s ancient past – cobbled streets, fairytale buildings from palaces to marketplaces and the colourful port side – have been enhanced in more recent times with cutting edge architecture, Michelin-starred restaurants, cool hotels and a new generation of world-class design from jewellery to fashion.

Make sure you include time for some retail therapy along StrØget – it’s the longest shopping street in Europe and is home to chic boutiques and grown-up designer stores.

Tick off the key sites such as the Little Mermaid statue and the Tivoli Gardens, the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek museum of modern and classical art, the Blue Planet Aquarium, Planetarium and Carlsberg Brewery. The Amalienborg Palace shouldn’t be missed either and we could spend entire days in and around the old port of Nyhavn alone.

We have selected a choice of six wonderful four and five star hotels, each of them ideally-located and perfect for a short break to suit all occasions.

The Nimb is nothing short of astonishing and we love its cool vibe and funky design. Built in 1909, it resembles an Arabian fantasy castle and has just 17 rooms and suites overlooking the Tivoli Gardens.

D’Angleterre is more of a classic ‘grande dame’ of a hotel with elegant rooms, a spa complete with indoor pool (the only one in the city), a Michelin-starred restaurant and the ultra cool Balthazar Champagne Bar.
