6 romantic cottages in Wales for Valentine’s Day

Here’s a great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day: escape with your loved one to the glorious Welsh countryside. Whether you choose to stay near the coast or venture up north to enjoy the village life, here are six romantic cottages in Wales, each available at the time of writing on the weekend around 14 February 2016.

1. Quirky hobbit house in the rolling hills of Mid Wales

Just seven miles from Aberaeron, set within 65 acres of organic meadows, Aurora (above) is a unique hobbit house sleeping two adults (and up to two small children in bunk beds). Perfect for a romantic getaway, the property is set on a working farm and boasts a well-maintained nature trail that meanders through the grounds. The studio-style house has an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner and sleeping area with woodburner and TV. Outside there is a shared enclosed garden area with views across the valley.

2. Contemporary garden cottage in a quiet village setting

Magor Garden Cottage (above) promises a romantic getaway with everything you could need. With a king-size ensuite bedroom and open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, there is plenty of space for a couple and there’s a large garden with seating arean. There are a number of amenities within a short drive and parking is free in the car park opposite the cottage.

3. Stylish converted mill in a quiet Flintshire village

This fabulously renovated property can be found in secluded private grounds overlooking well-maintained gardens and a mill stream. Lower Felin Newydd (above) sleeps two in the king-size bedroom. There’s a little luxury too, with a rainforest shower over the bathtub. Parking is available and outside you’ll find a private courtyard with seating and BBQ area. There is also a local pub within walking distance allowing you to pop out for a romantic dinner.

4. Renovated farm building in the South Wales countryside

Within a short drive to Cardiff, Sutton Barns – Ash Tree Cottage (above) sleeps two and is perfectly situated for both the city and for the countryside and beaches around South Wales. Lovingly converted to a high standard, the cottage is filled with character features such as exposed beams. With plenty of parking available on the working farm and two other properties available to book, you can get away alone for a romantic weekend or take the whole family across the three properties.

5. Charming cottage on a working cider farm

Scrumpy Barn (above) is six miles from Aberaeron with one double bedroom, a single bedroom and distant sea views. The lounge/diner has a seating area with a woodburner and there’s a well-equipped galley kitchen. Outside you can find a private decked area and, just a short drive away, there’s a selection of pubs, restaurants and shops. Discounts for couples are available for off-peak bookings.

6. Welsh stone cottage with breathtaking views

This charming cottage is set in the grounds of the owner’s home, but offers absolute privacy. Bryn Eglwys Cottage (above) is a spacious property for two people with an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, separate bedroom, and a modern shower room. Outside the cottage has an enclosed garden with seating and ample parking and bike storage.
