A night on a submarine

Hire the Lovers Deep submarine for two and you can even choose which Caribbean island’s reefs you explore. This leisure submarine was built specifically for couples who want to spend the night together beneath the ocean, in complete privacy and luxury. There’s a discreet crew on board to ensure your every need is taken care of as you gaze out at the marine life which surrounds you. At £175,000 for a night, it’s definitely a once in a lifetime experience.

Napoleonic Fortress

Stay in a Napoleonic Fortress

Originally built to guard the key strategic city of Portsmouth from the French, this historic island fortress (pictured above) has now been transformed in to a luxurious hotel with nine suites, a choice of bars and restaurants and a spa. One night costs from £5,200 for up to 16 guests.

Castelnau des Plantagenet, France

Mayor for a day – rent a French village

The 13th century hillside village of Castelnau Des Plantagenet (pictured above) in Gascony is available to hire in its entirety. Up to 80 people can enjoy ‘village life’ in characterful accommodation in 12 houses and modern facilities such as a swimming pool and tennis court. There’s even a 12th century church – perfect for a wedding. A week costs £41,000 for up to 80 people.

The Observatory

Star-gazing in South Africa

Located on a 12,000 acre game reserve in South Africa, The Observatory (pictured above) is not only a great base from which to explore the bush but it’s also a fully functioning research-grade observatory for stellar star-gazing. Quad bikes, mountain bikes, horses and even a helicopter are on hand for day-time adventures. Fully staffed, with breakfast included, rental costs from £15,200 for a week for up to six adults and four children.

Lantern Lighthouse, Croatia

Rent a Croatian lighthouse

The Lantern Lighthouse (pictured above) is a quirky gem, the only building on the wooded island of Vir in the Dalmatia region of Croatia. Built in 1881, it was a fully working lighthouse until it was converted to a luxury villa.  There’s a road bridge to the mainland and the sea is, needless to say, on your doorstep. From £6,325 for one week for up to eight people, including maid service and breakfast.
