Hottest Greek islands in September

By Mark Hodson

The Greek islands have seen very few cases of Covid-19, and there are no travel restrictions or quarantines. September is arguably the best month to visit: temperatures are still hot, the sea is warm and the summer crowds have disappeared. In the most southerly islands, it can get as hot as 30ºC but rarely feels oppressive.

Which islands will be hottest?

Kos

Average temperature in September: 28ºC
Hours of daily sunshine: 11
Flying time from UK: 4 hours

Like most Greek islands, Kos can get very hot in the first half of September, with temperatures starting to cool a little towards the end. Along with average highs of 28ºC and 11 hours of sun, the sea will be a lovely 24ºC, and nighttime temperatures will rarely drop below 20ºC. It may even be too warm for serious sightseeing.

You can get off the beaten track on Samos to discover glorious beaches, rugged mountains and traditional villages.
