Winter in the snow

Amanda's verdict
Fact: all children love snow, and the more the better. But don't assume you need to go to all the trouble and expense of booking a ski holiday. The specialist tour operator Inntravel has a lovely selection of fun active holidays on the slopes, staying in pretty villages, with endless possibilities for sledging, tobogganing, skating and snowshoeing.

Inntravel says

Holidays in the snow don’t have to be all about skiing. We have hand-picked some small family-run hotels in charming village resorts in Austria and Norway, with a wide choice of activities for skiers and non-skiers of all ages.

  • Lots of activities
  • Small villages
  • Hotels with a pool

Each day is yours to fill – activities vary from village to village but might include snowshoeing, horse-drawn sleigh rides, tobogganing, ice skating, curling, fat-biking and dog-sledding. From our two Austrian hotels, you could visit nearby Innsbruck, which is great for a day out.

All our hotels have a heated indoor swimming pool so after a day’s activities, the whole family can unwind and splash around.

The lakefront location of Pertisau is one of the many reasons we love this Austrian village – the charming Hotel Wiesenhof is the other reason. It’s a gem of a hotel with two pools, a spa, play room, superb food and the warmest hospitality from the Entner family and their team.

Also in the Austrian Tyrol, the Hotel Inntaler Hof is exceptional with its traditional Tyrolean feel and glorious setting in the heart of historic Mösern.

Or head to the Rondane National Park in Norway where the Spidsbergseter Hotel awaits, with its log cabins, open fires and even a curling lane. This is one of the best places we go to for cross-country skiing and is a particularly good choice for multi-generation families looking for a tranquil escape.
