Contemporary Mauritius

Our verdict:

Fancy some family pampering and adventures on an exotic Indian Ocean island? Look no further than Mauritius where the quality of the hospitality is matched by the island's natural beauty and the warmth of the welcome. It's safe, the child care in the luxury resorts is outstanding and you're spoilt for choice when it comes to things to see and do.

Recommended tour operator: Travelbeam Luxury Holidays

Travelbeam Luxury Holidays says

A family holiday in Mauritius is an ideal luxury long haul adventure – non stop flights (with most hotels within an hour’s drive of the airport), a sub-tropical year-round climate, warm and professional hospitality in a safe environment and great value for money.

  • direct flights
  • outstanding childcare
  • stylish hotels

When it comes to activities, you’ll find horse riding, nature trails, hiking, sailing, watersports, golf, cookery and cycling. All the hotels boast fabulous spas.

The standard of hotels in Mauritius is amongst the highest in the world but the LUX* group of resorts is our choice when it comes to family holidays which feel like a breath of fresh air – contemporary, casual, fun and friendly.

All three LUX* resorts on Mauritius boast outstanding complimentary kids clubs with the emphasis on exploration and nature. There’s PLAY for ages three to 12 and Studio 17 for teenagers. Baby-sitting and nanny service for younger children can also be arranged.

Each hotel also has a wide range of top notch restaurants to choose from, a superb spa and Cinema Paradiso filming screenings on the beach complete with giant cushions and popcorn. You’ll even find a complimentary ice-cream parlour.

On the east coast, the all-suite LUX* Belle Mare is the group’s flagship hotel and it oozes style without being remotely formal. Choose from junior suites, family suites and slick villas with a private pool – all designed by Kelly Hoppen. The pool here is one of the biggest in the Indian Ocean – over 2,000 sq metres – and we love the shelving beaches and authentic Mauritian vibe.

LUX* Le Morne is our top pick for nature-loving families. It’s located on a breathtaking lagoon (great for snorkelling) on the wilder south west coast of Mauritius. The chance to swim amongst wild dolphins, climb Le Morne mountain, head out on a cycling adventure and explore the Black River Gorges National Park are all on your doorstep. The hotel has clubs for children aged 3 – 17.

Located on a picturesque sheltered sandy bay and boasting retro-chic guest rooms, suites and villas (with a private pool) designed by Kelly Hoppen, LUX* Grand Gaube has an even more contemporary feel.  The tennis academy will appeal to budding players and the calm waters are perfect for enjoying the wide range of water sports on offer.

At all Lux* resorts you can choose from bed and breakfast, half-board, full-board or all-inclusive rates.
