Mark's verdict:

Few holidays tick more boxes than a safari/beach combo - explore the African bush, tracking down big game and staying in a tented camp, and then chill-out time, snorkelling and swimming on the Indian Ocean. Exsus have made it irresistible by combining Tanzania's wild and wonderful Serengeti with a gorgeous hotel on the beach.

Exsus says

A safari is one of the most exciting and engaging experiences for any family with older children and teenagers. Add on a glorious white sand beach and you have, perhaps, the ultimate family holiday.

Our favourite family safari/beach destination is Tanzania – there are direct overnight flights (leave London at 7pm and be settled in to your camp by 9.30am the following morning), the game viewing is stupendous and the palm-fringed coastline is stunning.

We’ve created this 11-night Tanzania safari and beach adventure specifically with families in mind – it’s good value too, with all flights, transfers, accommodation and some meals included.

The first four nights are in the Serengeti, one of the world’s most spectacular savannahs, teeming with wildlife. Your base is the Lamai Serengeti Camp where you’ll sleep, in comfort, under the stars, allowing the whole family to experience the wonders of the natural environment up close and personal. Relax over a family picnic in between game drives where there’s a good chance you’ll see elephants, giraffes and big cats amongst the wildlife.

We’ll then fly you in a light aircraft to the coast for a week’s stay on the Zanzibar archipelago. Think dreamy white beaches, ramshackle towns peppered with faded colonial grandeur and sheer R&R. We’ve picked the family-run Breezes Beach Club, bang on the beach, which offers a host of water sports and scuba-diving as well as a spa, a choice of restaurants and spacious accommodation.

The best times of year for a family holiday in Tanzania are Christmas and New Year, February and October half-term weeks and the summer holidays.
