Bulgaria

Our verdict:

Hundreds of thousands of Brits visit Bulgaria, with growing numbers enjoying the Bulgarian Riviera. There are beaches with golden sands stretching for miles with resorts to suit everyone - from young families wanting peace and quiet to busy teen-friendly resorts. What everyone loves is the incredible value for money - worth thinking about as the pound struggles against other currencies.

Recommended tour operator: Balkan Holidays

Balkan Holidays says

Take your family to Bulgaria’s southern Black Sea coast and not only will you enjoy the best value for money in the world (according to the 2019 Post Office Travel Money Holiday Costs Report), you’ll also have the time of your lives.

  • value for money
  • clean beaches
  • water parks

The most popular region for family holidays is Bourgas where all our resorts have sandy, family-friendly beaches in sheltered bays. For example, our main resort of Sunny Beach boasts a 9km stretch of golden, Blue Flag-certified beach and crystal-clear blue water.

A family of four can enjoy a week’s holiday on a B&B basis with flights for well under £2,000 in the peak of the school summer holidays.

On the same latitude as Corsica in the Med and farther south than Croatia, you can expect temperatures consistently above 25ºC during the summer months and warm temperatures in spring and autumn with very little rainfall.

As market leaders, we have the pick of the best accommodation in a choice of resorts such as Sunny Beach, Pomorie, Duni and Obzor. We offer a wide range from two- to five-star hotels as well as self-catering apartments and aparthotels.

The four star all-inclusive Hotel Laguna Park is a haven for children with its own water park and a mini-club for ages four to 12 years.

Just 100m from the beach, the five-star all-inclusive Hotel Sol Nessebar Palace has a wealth of facilities and entertainment for all the family, including spectacular water slides, as well as spacious family rooms with a separate kids’ bedroom.

The all-inclusive Hotel MPM Kalina Garden is a popular four-star choice in the heart of Sunny Beach. There’s a separate children’s pool and a mini-club for ages four to 12 years.

Eating out is incredible value in Bulgaria with a wide choice of family-friendly cafes and restaurants – expect to pay around £3 for a pizza, less than 80p for a soda and just £27 for a three-course meal for two with a bottle of wine.

There’s plenty to do off the beach with a choice of exciting water parks to suit all ages, water sports and boat trips, mini-golf and some fascinating sight-seeing in the ancient town of Nessebar.

English is widely spoken in the hotels and tourist attractions and your family will receive a genuinely warm welcome.

The Bourgas region is easy to get to with flights from most UK airports to Bourgas, taking just over three hours. Transfers to Sunny Beach, for example, take just 30 minutes.

We also offer family skiing holidays in Bulgaria, Slovenia and Romania.
