Best of Brazil

Amanda's verdict
It’s not all jungle. Brazil has iconic cities like Rio and Salvador; there’s the watery wilderness of the Pantanal, the ground-shaking Iguacu Falls, a spectacular coastline, carnival, samba, football… one trip isn't enough to sample all the delights of this amazing country. But this family itinerary combining the Costa Verde with the Pantanal does nicely for starters.

In this family itinerary, we have selected two of our favourites: Brazil’s Costa Verde, an idyllic coastline with some of the world’s finest beaches, and the awe-inspiring Brazilian Pantanal, the largest wetland on the planet with fabulously rich wildlife and cowboy culture.

You’ll stay in a wonderful hotel in a fishing village on the Costa Verde, with views out to sea from the stunning infinity pool. Kids are well entertained here with organised jungle treks, boat trips, sea kayaking or deep sea fishing. Local children from the village play football on the nearest beach and are delighted when others join in the fun.

Next you fly to the Pantanal where you will stay on a working cattle ranch. Head out each day on safari style excursions, travelling by jeep, boat or horseback, so you can experience the amazing wildlife and mesmerising landscape. See caiman, capybara and the stunning Hyacinth Macaw (doubtless known to your kids as Blu from Rio the Movie), go piranha fishing and hope to get a glimpse of the elusive jaguar.

Each day is tailored around your family’s preferences and pace, so if mum prefers a massage by the pool while dad and the kids herd some cattle – no problem!
