At the southern end of Africa’s Great Rift Valley lies Zambia’s pride and joy – more than 9,000 square kilometres of pristine national park, with the eastern border a meandering river, and the western border a towering escarpment. This is the South Luangwa National Park, one of the best holiday destinations for game-viewing in the whole of Africa. The rich dark “cotton-soil” supports an extraordinary variety of animal and birdlife.

The Luangwa River is the lifeblood of the park, twisting and turning to form oxbow lagoons as it rushes to join the Zambezi. Our 9-night Aardvark Safari stays at luxury bushcamps situated along the Luwi river, a sand tributary of the Luangwa, with the very best guiding to explore this fascinating area.

You start your journey deep in the park, where the walking is exhilarating and the game abundant. Exploring solely on foot, led by your expert guide, you’ll stay at four bushcamps, walking from camp to camp and following the Luwi as it wends its way towards the Luangwa, first though thick bush, then across wide flat plains.

The camps, run by Norman Carr Safaris, offer solely walking, or a combination of walks and 4WD day-and-night game drives in open vehicles, giving you the opportunity to see some of Luangwa’s night predators. It’s an exciting and unforgettable trip through a beautiful and game-rich corner of Africa.
