Opera in Verona

Mark and David's verdict

Often staged in historic settings, such as the 2,000 year old amphitheatre in Verona where audiences applaud divas from the same seats as they once cheered their favourite gladiators, Italy's opera season extends far beyond La Scala, with al fresco performances both magical and musically memorable.

Kirker Holidays says

Verona is Italy at its most handsome. The city’s Roman arena, built in the 1st Century for gladiatorial contests, is the stage for the annual open-air opera festival. The acoustics are terrific and the atmosphere, with thousands of candles held by members of the audience, magical.

The 2012 Verona Opera Festival runs from June 22 to September 2 and feature performances of Tosca, Carmen, Aida, Turandot, Don Gionvanni and Romeo and Juliet.

You can either combine an independent short break to this elegant city with a visit to the Roman Arena and the opera of your choice, or you can book a five-night tour dedicated to the Opera Festival.

Kirker’s escorted tour includes tickets to two operas, excursions and the services of a tour guide to show you around Verona itself, the surrounding countryside and Lake Iseo. It’s the ideal way to combine a love of opera with a visit to “Juliet’s city” amongst like-minded travellers.

Kirker Holidays offers a wide range of music, opera and other cultural tours in the UK and Europe; we pride ourselves on securing the best possible seats, expert tour guides and a choice of fine accommodation.
