Highlights of Hawaii

Mike & Donna's verdict:

Each Hawaiian island is different, so it's difficult to choose just one for a holiday. With this escorted tour, you'll visit several islands, taking in highlights such as Honolulu and Waikiki Beach, and an amazing variety of landscapes, from active volcanoes and massive craters to lush rainforest, spectacular coastal cliffs and canyons, along with Hawaii's history and culture.

Join our escorted tour of the Hawaiian Islands for two weeks of island hopping, sightseeing and beach life in these beautiful and diverse islands.

Your first four nights are in Waikiki, Honolulu, where there’s free time to explore and relax on famous Waikiki beach plus some fascinating tours – we’ll take you to Pearl Harbour, the USS Arizona Memorial and on to downtown Honolulu for a city tour featuring Chinatown, the Royal Iolani Palace and Kamehameha’s Statue.

The ‘Big Island’ of Hawaii beckons next, with terrain ranging from tropical rainforest to lava desert. We’ll go to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and see Kilauea Crater.

Stay in Kona, close to historic Kailua-Kona – you can visit the former holiday home of the Hawaiian Royal Family, Hulihee Palace and a restored temple. There’s an optional sunset trip to the summit of Mauna Kea Crater before stargazing from the Ellison Onizuka Visitor Centre.

Next stop is the ‘Garden Isle’ of Kauai, a short flight away. Highlights include Waimea Canyon – it’s 10 miles long and 3,600ft deep and is truly spectacular – plus the fertile Hanapepe Valley and Spouting Horn blowhole. There’s a night to remember at one of Hawaii’s best Luaus, including dinner and a colourful performance by Hawaiian dancers and musicians.

You can take a helicopter trip over the island including Hanalei Bay, where South Pacific was filmed.

Head to the ‘Valley Island’, Maui where you’ll stay in pretty Kaaapali and visit the Iao Valley – the ‘Yosemite of the Pacific’ – and Haleakala National Park, an International Biosphere Reserve.

The trip ends with a flight back to San Francisco – where we would be happy to extend your stay if you wish.
