Skiathos and beyond

David & Mark's verdict

Skiathos is a rich pick 'n' mix of a Greek island. It's green and scenic, the beaches are long and sandy, the lively nightlife is readily tapped (or just as easily ignored) and with frequent ferry links to neighbouring and very different Skopelos (star of Mamma Mia!) and Alonissos, you can explore a trio of islands without switching accommodation.

The neighbouring islands of Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos offer three different facets of Greece. Skiathos is a well-established tourist island with a range of affordable, high-quality hotels and apartments in resorts such as Skiathos Town, and on the beautiful Kanapitsa Peninsula.

As well as enjoying golden beaches and crystal blue waters, visitors to Skiathos can choose from a range of activities, including boating, sailing, hiking, biking, horseriding, scuba diving and yoga, as well as cultural tours, cookery lessons, local festivals and museums.

Skopelos, the beautiful backdrop to the movie version of Mamma Mia!, is quieter and more rustic than Skiathos, with a great range of villas and apartments that will suit families and couples who want to relax in an intimate setting. Tranquil resorts such as Stafylos and Raches are always popular with British holidaymakers looking for quality at affordable prices.

Alonissos is Greece from 20 years ago. Largely untouched by tourism, the island is ideal for those who want a private getaway, staying on the beautiful coast in one of our handpicked villas and cottages.
