Tours of Japan

Cathy's verdict:

From ultramodern Tokyo to the temples and geisha of Kyoto, Japan is eternally fascinating. And with no single supplement on selected trips, these guided tours cover the country’s main sights and lesser-known spots, some featuring overnight stays in temple lodgings. There’s also an option to create a tailor-made solo itinerary.

InsideJapan Tours says

Join one of our small group tours in Japan and you will not only feel you have really got under the skin of this fascinating and diverse country but, on some itineraries, you will have your own room with no single supplement in most hotels.

  • expert-guided groups
  • no single supplement on selected trips
  • popular with solos

Our groups each have a maximum of 14 people, and you will be accompanied by one of our own expert tour leaders throughout. Some of our itineraries even offer the chance to have your own room with no single supplement for the majority of the trip. All the following highlighted tours are available without a single supplement.

Perhaps the most comprehensive tour on offer is Japan Unmasked, a 13-night itinerary that takes in vibrant cities, tranquil mountain villages, gardens, temples, castles and hot springs – also including a trip on the Bullet Train.

Tokaido Trail is a great value, nine-night tour that takes in Tokyo, the hot spring resort of Hakone and the ancient city of Kyoto, where we include a tour of the traditional Gion district for an insight into the life of Japan’s geisha. Travel throughout is by train, including the Shinkansen bullet train. Travel in July or August for the option to climb Mount Fuji.

It’s all about Japan’s incredible natural beauty on Historic Mountain Trails – explore the beautiful Kamikochi National Park, walk the ancient Nakasendo Highway,  view Tokyo from the Sumida River, see the sun rise from the summit of Mount Fuji and hike the spectacular Mount Hotaka. Good fitness and hillwalking experience is a must!

Stays in Western-style hotels on all three tours will be in a single room – you will only be asked to share with someone of the same sex when staying in traditional Japanese inns and guesthouses, where communal lodgings are the norm.

If you would prefer to travel on your own, our knowledgeable team can tailor-make an itinerary for you. With our expertise, you will find that Japan has plenty to reward the solo traveller.
