Today’s expert hotel tip comes from Beth Blair, who writes travel for Fodors.com and Foxnews.com, and is co-founder of TheVacationGals.com. She is the latest of more than 50 travel writers who have contributed personal hotel recommendations to 101 Holidays.

Beth recommends Loews Lake Vegas Resort. She says: “It’s a tropical paradise in the middle of the desert. The sand beach and private cabanas help guests forget they’re only a short drive to the Las Vegas Strip.” Doubles cost from $179 (£112).
