He says: “In Paris, I always just cross the road from the Eurostar to Mercure Hotel Terminus Nord. No hassle. Very comfortable, quiet, convenient.” Doubles cost from €108 (£98).

    I know a number of people who have stayed there and all would recommend it. Its easy to find, and as Andrew says “no hassle”, particularly if your are visiting Paris via train or Eurostar (into Gard du Nord).
