Wightlink has launched ‘Pawprint’ – an illustrated booklet giving a dog’s eye view of holidays on the Isle of Wight – to coincide with National Pet Month (April).
With 8.3 million pet dogs in the UK (Mintel, 2011), and no need for a pet passport, Wightlink is smart in identifying this huge market.
Pawprint is packed with useful information and is fun to read, with stunning photography. It features canine dog reporters including Sherrie, an accomplished surfer dog, Daisy-May, the dog hotelier, and Breez, an experienced biker who buzzes around West Wight in the sidecar of his owner’s scooter or in a trailer on the back of his bike.

It’s a practical guide too – Wightlink surveyed over 100 dogs (well, their owners) using its ferry terminals to find what holidaying hounds enjoy most. Recommendations include the best year-round beaches, woodland walks and cliff adventures and the most dog-friendly pubs and accommodation.
Dog-friendly breaks from Wightlink include a 3-night weekend break in Tennyson Barn, one of seven luxurious self catering properties at Niton Barns on the south coast – from £217 pp based on 2 sharing plus £30 per dog. One of Wightlink’s Green Getaways, the price includes return car ferry travel from Portsmouth or Lymington – and look out for Sherrie the surfer dog riding the waves on nearby Compton Beach.
