Garlic Festival this weekend

If you’re looking for a last minute getaway this weekend, head to the Isle of Wight where the annual Garlic Festival takes place on August 15 and 16. You won’t be able to avoid the stuff – there are some 300 stalls with mussels, prawns, sausages, lamb, hot crusty bread, ice-cream and even coffee, all served with a garlicky twist.

Other attractions include a funfair, music from the likes of The Wurzels, Dr and the Medics and T-Rextasy and a collection of vintage cars and tractors.

Tickets cost £7.50 per adult, £4 per child. Well-behaved dogs on the lead are also welcome.

Isle of Wight Easter deals

Red Funnel is offering free child places on foot passenger ferries to the Isle of Wight over the school Easter holidays.

Children taking day trips on the Red Jet Hi-Speed ferry from Southampton normally pay £9.20 each, but they travel free between April 4 and 19. Up to two children can travel free accompanied by one adult.

If you’re driving, there is a discounted return fare over the Easter holidays of £32 for a car and up to six passengers.

Red Funnel also has deals on holidays packages, including hotels, B&Bs, farm stays, self-catering cottages and apartments, camping and caravanning.

Easter activities include traditional Easter egg hunts at Mottistone Manor and the Needles Old Battery as well as the opportunity to hand-feed a fully-grown tiger at the Isle of Wight Zoo and an island-wide Treasure Hunt.
