I’m off to Montserrat on a last-minute work project next week. On Wednesday, I booked my BA flight at ba.com from Gatwick to Antigua, flying out on Tuesday 7th December, returning on the 15th.
The economy-class return fare was £660 including taxes. A fair price, I thought. But if I had booked the same flights today – just 48 hours later – it would have cost £2,516, an increase of almost 300%. The outbound flight is clearly full in the back of the bus as it’s in Club World so there’s a flat bed to enjoy but even so……
What’s going on here? Perhaps some passengers who missed their flights due to the snow chaos this week have rebooked next week. Or could it be that lots of people are keen to escape the freeze for some Caribbean sunshine?
