Aardvark Safaris says
Riding through the wilderness is one of the great African pleasures. As family safari specialists, we can offer anything from a gentle hack to a full-on week long riding safari.
Kenya and Botswana offer arguably the most exhilarating riding with holidays in the superb wildlife areas of the Masai Mara and Okavango Delta.
Cantering alongside giraffe and splashing through the sparkling floodplains of the Okavango, or tracking lion and big game in the Masai Mara is truly memorable for families who are experienced riders.
South Africa also has a wonderful selection, with some exceptional riding in the famous Kruger National Park.
For those travelling with younger children or less experienced riders, there are delightful lodges offering all manner of riding spread throughout Southern and East Africa. Anything is possible, from tiny tots being led around the lodge garden and beginners being taken on a gentle stroll, to the whole family going for a morning’s ride, bush breakfast and a game drive back to camp.
Particular favourites where riding is offered alongside more conventional safari activities are Ant’s Nest and Tswalu in South Africa, and Borana and Lewa in Kenya.
It’s not all about game viewing either as Africa’s glorious coastline also offers some unique riding including playing in the surf in Mozambique and exploring remote beaches in South Africa’s Cape Region.
With accommodation ranging from simple tents on the longer riding itineraries to luxury lodges, it’s truly the holiday of a lifetime.

Within minutes of mounting up we were mingling with giraffe and zebra. Our children were utterly spellbound…
