For an informal family holiday, with the opportunity to stay in the heart of rural Italy, agriturismi have so much to offer, with great food, stunning locations and plenty to occupy the children.
Set deep in the Umbrian countryside between Rome and Florence is La Casella, offering an excellent horse riding school as well as hiking, tennis and mountain biking. In the summer, dinner is al fresco on long tables on the terrace overlooking the pool, with delicious Orvieto wines and hearty local cuisine.
In northern Umbria, we feature the delightful Agriturismo Sant’Illuminato, a collection of five apartments with a shared pool, playground and spacious lawns ideal for younger children. Located close to Citta di Castello, it offers excellent value and a relaxed base for exploring this enchanting region.
For a combination of rustic country retreat and beach, we recommend the Borgo San Marco in Puglia. Set on a family-run olive farm, this beautiful masseria offers spacious two-room suites, a large pool and a spa. Long sandy beaches with azure waters are a five minute drive away and there are numerous hilltop towns and seaside villages nearby.
Western Sicily is an undiscovered secret, perfect for half term, early or late summer sun.
