Although the idea of small children and a big blue fathomless ocean is more likely to trigger alarm bells than a rush to pack the suitcases, cruising is an ideal family holiday. But you do need to pick the right ship, one that caters for children by way of clubs, night nurseries, flexible dining and lots to do rather than simply letting them come along for the ride.

The fun begins as soon as you step aboard one of P&O Cruises’ four family-friendly ships: Azura, Aurora, Oceana and Ventura. Each ship has an extensive range of facilities to make life on board as relaxing as possible for parents and entertaining for children.
The Reef offers a full programme of activities for children aged between 2 and 17. Age-specific clubs are open from 9am to 10.30pm and run by our experienced Reef Rangers. A Night Nursery is also open for children aged 6 months to 5 years, and for older children there are discos and activities after dark.
Children’s favourites Noddy and Mr Bump are on hand to entertain youngsters, taking part in character breakfasts, movie screenings and photo sessions. There’s high tea for children too.
Cabins are well equipped for the needs of families. Family Savers offer generous fare reductions for children up to the age of 16.
A great menu of family-friendly shore excursions include water parks, glass-bottom boat rides and jeep safaris.

Marco Pierre White has restaurants on board Ventura, Aurora and Oceana (and on Adonia, Arcadia and Oriana by the end of 2011).
