Cottage holidays in Devon

David & Mark's verdict

Many of the summer pleasures of South Devon are to do with water: beaches, bathing and seafood suppers, surfing, rock pooling, boat trips and walking on coastal footpaths. Even the voluptuous curvy countryside is incised by rivers, creeks, estuaries and tidal flats.

Helpful Holidays says

South Devon has many special places where it is possible to spend lazy days soaking up the sunshine and pottering around on beaches and rivers. Amongst our favourite places are Slapton, with its long curve of pebble beach and nature reserve lagoon, and the historic maritime town of Dartmouth.

At the heart of South Devon are Kingsbridge and Totnes, both historic, attractive and compact towns. We recommend you visit the lovely gardens at Dartington Hall and take a pleasure cruise across the Kingsbridge estuary and along the Dart and Tamar rivers.

Other places that should appear on your itinerary include the beach at East Portlemouth, picturesque Salcombe and the expansive sands of Bigbury.

At Helpful Holidays, we offer some 300 holiday homes throughout Devon, ranging from country houses to traditional chocolate-box cottages and seaside apartments. Our “Down to earth, tell it like it is” approach remains the cornerstone of our business and we’re entirely independent, family-run and dedicated to delivering top-quality service.
