Canadian Rockies

David & Mark's verdict

The tallest peaks and most awe-inspiring views of the Rockies, the spine of mountains that form the backbone of North America, lie in Canada. More precisely, within a single World Heritage Site that straddles British Columbia and Alberta. For the ultimate in scenic rail journeys, travel from Vancouver aboard the Rocky Mountaineer.

Canadian Sky says

Discover the natural beauty of Canada on our Western Explorer Rocky Mountaineer tour. Starting in cultural Calgary and culminating in cosmopolitan Vancouver, this 9-day tour combines all the must-see attractions of the Canadian Rockies including a 2-day rail trip on the Rocky Mountaineer.

The tour begins with a helicopter ride over the remarkable landscape of the Rockies and continues with guided tours of Jasper, Yoho National Park and Banff. Highlights include a visit to the Banff Gondola Icefields Parkway where you can ride onto the Athabasca Glacier on a specially-adapted Ice Explorer.

On arrival in Jasper, you can choose from one of five activities: a Maligne Valley tour, a wildlife safari, a float trip on the Athabasca River, a rafting trip or horseback ride.

Then it’s time to sit back and enjoy 2 days aboard the Rocky Mountaineer, travelling by rail across the spectacular Canadian Rockies. The first day takes in the dramatic scenery of the Continental Divide and the river valleys of the Monashee and Caribou mountains. Your journey continues to Vancouver, passing the dramatic slopes of the Thompson River and the white water of Hell’s Gate in Fraser Canyon.
